Another look on Women’s Health

All human beings get sick during a time in their lives and in one way or another needed the services of a doctor. But why is it that with a lot of specialties and subspecialties in the medical field, it is only the women and children who have their own field of medical practice? When you have to check the health of a child, either because he is sick or just needs his immunization shots, you go to a pediatrician. When it is the women’s health that is the object of concern, you go see a gynecologist. When women are pregnant, the doctor concerned for these women’s health is an obstetrician.

Some, most specifically those belonging to the male population would probably find it quite unfair for women to have their own specialty of medicine and practitioner. They would almost certainly say that they too get sick so why don’t they have a doctor of their own. A good rebuttal to this is that they actually do have a doctor for them but these doctors are divided into other subspecialties that pertain to a specific par t of their body that they need to ask on. With the complex systems that govern the human body, it is quite necessary to break them into subspecialties in order for the doctor to concentrate more on a particular part and exhaust all means possible to make sure that it is always healthy.

Also, women’s health in itself is already quite a complex undertaking. Women’s bodies are a lot different from men’s plus the fact that women are also involved in childbirth, another complex system that needs another specialty altogether. Most women’s health deals with the regulation of hormones and cycles that men are not really concerned with. Women’s health includes taking care of a baby for nine months. Women’s health comprises a monthly show of menstruation which is quite important for child bearing, although quite a nuisance to have. Women’s health is also concerned with the emotions and feelings that are affected by the levels of hormones in the body.

There are a lot of women’s health practices that should be given importance such as a regular breast exam and getting a Pap’s smear annually if possible. Unfortunately, not all women know this. Women often neglect to take care of themselves because their priority is the health of the family first before women’s health. But how are women supposed to take care of others when they are personally afflicted with ailments that they cannot seem to heal themselves?

The health of all humans is important. It is just that women’s health is much more complicated and needs more brain cells to comprehend as compared to the health of the male population. Since the women are those who conceive and are responsible for propagating life on earth, taking care of women’s health should be a priority and not something to be taken for granted. But this does not also mean that women’s health be prioritized over men and children. A balance should also be achieved.
